It is both congratulations and farewell to Ilkley Gardeners Association, who recently celebrated their 50th anniversary, but who also have just held their final ever meeting.
In what was a lovely way to both celebrate and to mark the end of an era, the Association purchased sacks of Narcissi Golden Anniversary bulbs from us to distribute to its members to celebrate marking their 50-year history.
Around 30 people attended their final meeting, enjoying a Christmas Horticultural Quiz, a glass of Prosecco, mince pies and the company of their fellow members. The Association received a letter of congratulations on their 50th anniversary from TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh, who was born in Ilkley.
Sadly, membership of the Association had dropped over recent years to around 30, so it was decided at their AGM in February that the December meeting would be their final meeting. All members who attended the final meeting received a bag of fifty free Golden Anniversary bulbs. In addition to this, a tub each of the bulbs was presented to Anne Graham, who helped found the Association 50 years ago, and to Bob Rowe, the last President of the Association. We here at Boston Bulbs wish all the members well and hope that when the bulbs flower it will remind them each year of the Gardeners' Association.
