The richly coloured lilac purple flower heads are made up of masses of densely clustered star shaped blooms.  The flower heads carry a strong garlic scent in early Summer and can be up to 18cm across, supported on tall, sturdy stems that stand proud in beds, Spring borders and formal dispays throughout June into July reaching heights of 150cm.  Makes a spectacular cutflower or allow the heads to dry for an effective garden display or for floral decorations.

In landscaped areas allium Gigantium has its head in the clouds, the bold flowers attract bees and butterflies and represent an excellent buy.

Interesting Note: Commonly known as the Giant Onion, this species originates from central and south western Asia and is the tallest ornamental Allium in cultivations.  Used extensively in landscaping projects, its powerful scent attracts bees and other pollinating insects.
